If You Don’t Recognise the Police, You Will Be Forced to Recognise Hoodlums and Thugs - Adedoyin

The Maye of Yoruba land and the founder and Chancellor of Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu-Ife North Local Government, His Royal Eminence, Dr. Abdulrahaman Adegoke Atobatele Adedoyin has emphasised the importance of the police in the maintenance of peace and security in the society.

Dr. Adedoyin made this observation while playing host to Osun State new Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode at his Maye Castle of Peace residence in Ife.

While declaring his love for the police work, the Maye declared that if “you don’t reckon with the police you will be forced to reckon with hoodlums and thugs.”

He recalled how he started as an home lesson teacher and the blessings of God he has enjoyed over the years to sense of fulfillment he now feel as the founder of five tertiary institutions viz: Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu, Our Savior’s University of America, Unique Citizens University (College) Accra-Ghana, The Polytechnic, Ile-Ife and Oduduwa Polytechnic, Lagos.

Adedoyin used the occasion to announce a N2 million scholarship award to an officer of the Nigeria Police of the Commissioner’s choosing to study a degree course at Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu

Earlier in his speech, the new Commissioner of Police while acknowledging several assistance Adedoyin had rendered to the Ife Division of the Nigeria Police and Osun Command as a whole, described the police job as a noble profession.

He noted that his posting to Osun State is like a homecoming as he once served as the Area Commander for Ife Zone in 2016 but spent only 3 months as he had to be redeployed as a result of his promotion to an Assistant Commissioner of Police.

The CP promised to put in his best to ensure that crime is reduced to the barest minimum describing Osun State as relatively peaceful when compared to other neighboring states.

He congratulated the Maye on his many successes and achievements and prayed that God continues to strengthen him to do more.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairperson, Board of Trustees of Oduduwa University and the Yeyemaye of Yoruba land, Chief (Mrs) Iyabode Adedoyin emphasised the need for all to continue to pray for leaders at all levels.

While praying that the new Commissioner of Police achieves successes in his new job and even further, the Yeyemaye advised that the officer of the Nigeria Police exercise a lot of restraints in the course of their duties especially when dealing with youths.

The Chairman of Ife Central West Council, Barrister Bisi Oladosu, who accompanied the new Commissioner of Police along with his Ife Central counterpart, Mr Eluyera Elugbaju, in his own speech described Dr Adedoyin as a pride to all Ife people in view of his numerous achievements especially in the area of education.

He recalled that Olawale Olokode made great impact in Ife Zone during his 3-month stint in 2016 as the Area Commander and the people are delighted to have him back this time as the new State Commissioner of Police.

The new state Commissioner of Police was accompanied on his visit to the Maye Castle of Peace by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Charge of the Mobile Police, the Area Commander, Ife Zone, Bode Akinbamilowo, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, and all the Divisional Police Officers in Ife Zone among other officers.

On hand to receive them were the Vice Chancellor, Oduduwa University, Prof. Benjamin Aribisala; the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Adeline Adeyemi, the Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies, Prof M.K.O Alimi as well as the members of the Maye in Council.
